Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can’t wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I’m particularly excited for…
45 Pounds (More or Less) by K. A. Barson
Here are the numbers of Ann Galardi’s life:
She is 16.
And a size 17.
Her perfect mother is a size 6.
Her Aunt Jackie is getting married in 10 weeks, and wants Ann to be her bridesmaid.
So Ann makes up her mind: Time to lose 45 pounds (more or less) in 2 1/2 months.
Welcome to the world of informercial diet plans, wedding dance lessons, embarrassing run-ins with the cutest guy Ann’s ever seen—-and some surprises about her NOT-so-perfect mother.
And there’s one more thing. It’s all about feeling comfortable in your own skin-—no matter how you add it up!
This sounds like a fun book about an issue that I don’t feel YA books cover enough: body image. I feel like the more well-known books about body image are very negative and not so hopeful, like Wintergirls, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I do wish there were more…positive takes on the issue. I don’t know exactly what I mean by this, but I think it is important to have books take on this issue in a lighter, less gloom-and-doom-and-starve-to-death way. This book has gotten really positive reviews on Goodreads so far, so I’m excited to read it. July, July, why so far away?
